Getting back (or, hello, and I've missed you).

I took a rather long break from taking pictures. Earlier in the week I went to this very lovely cemetery that is so old in sections that headstones and benches are crusted over, graves are sunken in. It was a perfect place to get back in touch with my camera.

There's just something about cemeteries, isn't there?

Back when I was into genealogy, I spent a whole afternoon trying to decipher and catalog a cemetery. The older stones can be almost impossible to read. Today we die and tomorrow we are forgotten.

Once, back in my college-age days, I spent part of the day with a couple of friends strolling through one of the huge, old cemeteries in Seattle. There was such a sense of history there. I haven't done that for a long time, and the cemeteries out here are not as pretty, but I do enjoy looking at the old names and wondering about the lives the people lived. It is sobering to come across those little graves - the ones with the just one year or two between birth and death.
