the french, again

excerpt from the french on life and love, a charming little book i bought while thrifting in kc last year. i recently considered re-thrifting it so someone else could enjoy it, but decided to go the way of the selfish with it. i really do love the quirky illustrations that accompany some of the quotations. there just aren't enough of them.

sunshiny day

in a fit of nostalgia, i very nearly posted a poem that i wrote while in high school. one of the few non-teen-angsty poems that emerged from those years, it was an ode to the sun.

(or something like that.)

fortunately, i came to my senses and, to save my self-respect, decided that surely someone else had said the thing better than my own pimpled self. the french came to my rescue (using a lot fewer words than i had):

"a summer's sun is worth the having."
~ french proverb

p.s. i no longer write poetry. my self respect also required that i point that out.

i have a new sister

this weekend, in nashville, i watched my brother get married. the wedding was beautiful. i'm afraid i cried a tiny bit. not so much from secretly being a hopeless victorian who cries at least a tiny bit at everything, but from the knowledge that i was watching countless prayers of countless people being answered. it was amazing.
